While I was reading the article: For Publishers: Why Webfeeds (RSS) Beat E-Mail Newsletters, it dawned on me that the Business School should utilize RSS feeds to better manage the job postings database. For those searching for internships and jobs, there is nothing worse then having to sift through that long list of companies in efforts to figure out what new postings were recently added to the database. Sure, the Business School has their current system where they post the yellow “new” lightening bolt tags next to supposed new entries, but how useful are those tags when 80 of them have been appearing for the past two weeks? Furthermore, these tags fail to indicate that existing postings have been updated with new information. As an alternative means, OCD and the companies themselves make a decent effort to keep students informed via update e-mails about new postings. These would prove to be useful if we didn’t receive twenty reminders per day, intermingled with mass-meeting e-mails from every club on campus. If the Business School were to employ the use of RSS feeds, it would make the job-hunting process a whole lot smoother for all parties involved. Students could simply log in and easily see what new additions and updates were most recently made to the database.
